Title: Waheiadooa, Chief of Oheitepeha, lying in state Description: Waheiadooa, Chief of Oheitepeha, lying in state, recorded by Captain Cook during his visit to Tahiti on 19 August 1777. A funerary stage supports the shrouded corpse with an attendant. They are sheltered by a grass-roofed awning, and surrounded by a low palisade. On either side, two stands for offerings [whatta] contain fruit. Pencil, ink and water-colour.
